Compensation : Assistant Mechanical Engineer (Rep.): $76,279 -
$99,528 (New Hire Rate: 76,279) Responsibilities: Assistant Mech.
Engineers, under supervision, perform Mech. engineering work of
moderate difficulty and responsibility; may supervise subordinate
employees. They may work alongside other engineers in the
performance of design, construction supervision, inspection and
testing, or drafting and tracing work; engage in research,
investigations, studies or examinations related to the engineering
functions or activities of a department or agency; prepare designs,
plans, contract and working drawings, contract specifications and
other technical specifications, and estimates of quantities; review
engineering plans and designs for compliance with NYC codes which
may include, but is not limited to, fire alarm and fire suppression
systems; participate in, and may supervise, major inspection
operations by observing, checking and certifying the installation
of materials or equipment, and by attesting to the performance and
the results of tests of materials and equipment in a laboratory,
manufacturer's plant or on a job site; participate in, and may
supervise, the inspection of premises and the construction,
demolition or alteration of structures in connection with the
issuance of certificates of occupancy or other requisite or
pertinent permits and compliance with the provisions of law, rule
or regulation; participate in, and may supervise, the operation and
maintenance of public works and the preparation of recommendations
for alterations or repairs; may operate a motor vehicle. All
Assistant Mechanical Engineers perform related work. Education and
Experience: A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in
mechanical engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory
experience in mechanical engineering work; or A baccalaureate
degree from an accredited college and a Master's degree from an
accredited college in mechanical engineering. Desired Skills:
Knowledge of engineering principles. Experience in a Rapid Transit
environment. Adept computer skills including MS Office suite.
Selection Method: Based on evaluation of education, skills,
experience, and interview. All appointments, with the exception of
the Department of Subways employees on MABSTOA payroll, will be
made on the NYCT payroll. Other Information: Pursuant to the New
